When the books for children and novels for adults were written, a determination was made to separate them with a fictitious name. Not wanting those searching for Mr. Longstory to immediately see CLAP or Alien Alchemy, the search for a pen name began. As with all things these last five years, I asked and the Lord responded.

I received a text message from a friend as part of a text thread to mutliple people. This was before I advised family and friends that I would not be responding to threads any longer but would if one person sent a message. A line from David (I find that interesting) was a back-handed compliment meant for me. In the message was a line that read, “Fn Hemmingway …” I had just begun writing books and my friends were reacting.

Thoughts about that line, after a quick chuckle, started. I had just gone to the movies to see the latest episode of ‘Star Wars.’ What was meant by David as a swear word, Fn, sounded like a character in the movie. He didn’t want to be known as FN… A new friend of his suggested Finn. The character liked it and so did I. This led to an internet search of Finn. There it was, a mythical Irish Lore about a man who had the noble task of protecting the king, who in turn, protects him.

In my life, Jesus is King. I protect and live under His guidance and rule. This isn’t mythology but real, every day living. Perfect!

Now for a last name. The two writers I followed most growing up and through the years as to their prose, were John Steinbeck and Ernest Hemminway. David mentioned Hemmingway in his text thread. There was no way I would take that last name. What if I merge the names as people do? Hemmingbeck? That doesn’t sound good. How about Steinway? That sounded good. I liked it. I did an internet search of Stein and Way. ‘Stein’ can mean a mug of beer. However, no longer drinking alcohol, this would not fit. It also means stone or rock in German. That does fit. ‘Way’ means the way or path.

Finn, who serves King Jesus, on the stone or rock path, The Way to the Lord. Finn Steinway was born.

Under the Fictitious names statute in Florida, the name must appear as a D/B/A in a publication once. This was performed in the Orlando Sentinel.

CG Nichols has also been used for a children’s book. Christopher G. Nicholson is still used for some books and Finn Steinway is used for the mature material, such as the novels that include tragedies but also triumphs. The fouth book in the Christian O’Donnell series, next to be completed, will highlight a great triumph.
